Victron Energy Pre-Charge Cable (For Inverters, Inverter/Chargers & MPPT Controllers)

The Victron Energy Pre-Charge Cable allows the internal capacitors of an inverter, inverter/charger, or MPPT controller to be pre-charged via the DC terminals before connecting the battery. This pre-charging prevents large in-rush currents that can cause arcing between the cable and DC terminals on initial connection.

The pre-charge time is typically very fast, e.g. less than a second for a Multiplus-II 48/5000 inverter/charger. Larger systems will take longer to pre-charge and the largest system intended for use with a single pre-charge cable is a 3-unit system with Multiplus-II or Quattro-II. For larger systems, several pre-charge cables can be used in parallel, or individual units can be pre-charged and connected to the battery one at a time.

The pre-charge cable has crocodile clips for connection between the positive terminal of a battery and the positive terminal of the unit to be pre-charged. It features LED indicators that show the charging state (yellow LED ON when pre-charging, OFF when complete) and warn if polarity is reversed (red LED ON). The pre-charge current is 0.5A max and it is recommended to remove the cable after pre-charging is complete to prevent unnecessary power draw, as it will continue to draw a small current if left connected. Final battery connection should be carried out immediately after pre-charging has finished.
